Library
Our library now houses a total of about 7,000 volumes which have been catalogued and put on the shelves. These include the rich library of late Dr. Yusufu Bala Usman and those of our Director. Many of Dr. Usman’s books are extremely rare, and a considerable number of them, including important government reports and white papers, are not obtainable elsewhere. These provide a wealth of resources for researchers. We have also been updating our collection with recent publications in various areas. We also have a number of books from other donors, including 410 from Hadiza Bala Usman, consisting mainly of recent memoirs, novels and best sellers, and several children’s’ books from Mariatu. Glenda Pattenden also organized a donation of about 14 books from the estate of Sarah White and from New Beacon books. These are in addition to the over 600 books and papers that were donated from the collection of late John LaRose in the previous year. We are finalising arrangements for registering library users in our updated website (www.ybu-institute.org ) so that the library can be open to the public. The registration form and other information has been placed on our website so that those wishing to use the library facilities can register on line.

Library Registration Processes
WHAT WE OFFER

The Yusufu Bala Usman Institute Library is a privately-owned institution dedicated to providing public access to a vast collection of resources and materials that facilitate research and learning. Its doors are open to individuals who register and adhere to the library’s established policies.
Committed to maintaining high standards of service and responsibility, the library requires applicants to present a reference from their respective affiliation. This measure ensures the proper utilization of library resources by individuals who demonstrate a genuine interest in research and learning.
For students seeking to register, the reference should be obtained from their Head of Department. Similarly, employees of organizations wishing to access the library must provide a reference from their Head of Unit. This system ensures that the library’s resources are utilized by individuals who are actively engaged in academic pursuits or professional endeavors.
